Week Seven

Authoring Tools for Interactive Learning

My lesson should take about 15 minutes to complete with built-in quizzes. The one learning outcome is to understand the subjects of Disability, Abelism, and Higher Education better by hearing arguments and insights from an expert on all three.

REFLECTION

This book was very eye-opening for me as I began my journey to understand college dropouts and the appalling graduation rates in the United States. I wanted to share how much Abelism largely contributes to student attrition.

PROCESS NOTES

At first, I couldn’t publish this using an e-learning authoring tool, as the one I do have (Articulate Storyline) – which to answer the question in the prompt, I love, because it’s very intuitive as acts like most other software – it’s so great.

Side note – a great tutorial (if you happen to have an extra three hours) here: https://youtu.be/_mBaWT-XVUQ?si=SdfKbeyd_kRdl4EG

Anyway, my copy of Articulate belongs to my employer, and I’ve already exhausted all other free trials available to me. So, originally, I opted to just host the video content on YouTube and add the quiz here on my portfolio website instead.

Another hurdle was that my new self-hosted installation of Moodle recently crashed, and I’m working to restore it. In other words, by the time of the next course, aka capstone project, I will have Moodle back online and continue producing video content using OBS studio and other free tools, and add formative and summative assessments using the LMS as was my original plan… BUT – I discovered a way to export Storyline courses as zip file, and a plugin to put them inside frames into WordPress posts, this feels way less like a violation of the appropriate use of office materials 🙂
